Manicure Monday: Golden Eye

December 31, 2012

Happy *almost* New Years! Guess the Mayan calendar was really wrong considering we're ringing in 2013 tonight! How is everyone celebrating? The past couple years have been pretty low-key for me, and I'm planning on doing the same this year.. it's so cold in my city anyways! Dinner with friends, a movie, & fondue. Yum.

That's not to say I won't be dressing up and having lots of fun! To celebrate the end of the year, I've got the last polish I picked up from the OPI Skyfall collection to share with you, and this one is perfect for New Years Eve. Golden Eye - a glitter packed gold polish that will sparkle on your tips and be sure to have you in the celebratory mood.

Golden Eye had a surprisingly sheer formula - the pictures above have three coats of the polish and it is still not completely opaque! I'm thinking the polish would need 4-5 coats to reach full opacity, but due to the glitter, you can get away with fewer coats since the light reflection covers up the spots. Being a glitter polish, it wears very well for up to 5 days chip free, and you definitely need to use the foil method to remove the gold off your tips.

What do your nails look like for New Years Eve? Hope you all have a wonderful time ringing in the new year! See you in 2013 :)

Manicure Monday: You Only Live Twice

December 24, 2012

Christmas Eve! Everyone done all their Christmas shopping yet? Or are you a last minute shopper? I'm finishing mine up today by picking up one last gift.. probably the first year that I've waited til the last minute to finish up my shopping! Whoops. Whichever you celebrate, I hope you all have a wonderful holiday and spend quality time with your families safe and warm.

Up this week on my fingers is my Christmas mani shade: OPI's You Only Live Twice from the James Bond Skyfall collection. That's right, James bond defies Drakes motto YOLO.. he lives twice. Yessss.

This shade is absolutely perfect for Christmas. It's a deep magenta shimmer, full of reflective shimmer and a glossy finish. I wouldn't say its unique as there are likely plenty of dupes (or close dupes) out there that you can find. It's cheery and festive, and achieves full opacity with the application of two coats. What are you wearing on your nails for the holidays this year?

Manicure Monday: Skyfall

December 10, 2012

Here we are... at Monday again. With my final exams right around the corner (1st one tomorrow!) I've been indoors all weekend "studying" - I get SO distracted, it is disgusting. Hoping for nothing but the best!

This week, I finally have OPI's Skyfall shade to share with you! Named after the latest in the Bond series, I actually got to see the movie about 3 weeks ago and really enjoyed it. To keep on trend, this colour matches one of the most popular shades this season - oxblood. No, not the colour of the blood of an ox, but oxidized blood!

I was a little skeptical when the oxblood colour showed up in fashion trends - I personally didn't really enjoy the shade, but overtime it's grown on me and I really love the colour now. Skyfall in this collection is the perfect oxblood shade - a red with heavy brown undertones that can flatter all skintones. The formula was smooth, and application was a breeze. Two coats are necessary for full opacity and it wears well on the nails for up to 5 days! I'll definitely be wearing this one again when I get the chance.

Manicure Monday: Live and Let Die

December 03, 2012

Happy Monday! Hope you all had a great weekend - I spent it studying. Surprise, surprise... not. Just two more weeks til Christmas break and I absolutely cannot wait. I want to do absolutely nothing school related for three whole weeks :)

Up this week for Mani Monday I have yet another polish from OPI's Skyfall collection, and this one is gorgeous! Live and Let Die was the 8th Bond movie ever released.. definitely before my time. I kind of have this desire to sit down and watch all the Bond films as a marathon, just so that I feel like I have an idea of what I'm taking about while I'm writing about the Skyfall collection. Perhaps I'll add that to my list of things to do this coming break!

Live and Let Die is a dark smoky blue-green polish packed with green and gold shimmer. The base colour itself reminds me of those really deep green Christmas trees, making it sit perfectly in this holiday collection. It really gets your attention in the sunlight so I had to snap a couple shots under the sun to show you all that it's got! The shimmer in it makes the wear time phenomenal - I had up to six days without chips! - and it is surprisingly easy to remove. This shade is definitely unique to my collection and I know I'll be wearing it again soon :)

Manicure Monday: The Spy Who Loved Me

November 26, 2012

Is it just me, or did the weekend go by REALLY fast? Everything feels like a blur (no I was not drunk!) but I did have a lot of fun celebrating my birthday meal after meal this past weekend. Lots of delicious food pictures are headed your way soon.. brace yourselves.

Up this week for Mani Monday is The Spy Who Loved Me from the OPI James Bond Collection - this one was the 10th bond movie ever made! Speaking of which, I finally saw Skyfall over the weekend and quite enjoyed it! Go out and see it if you haven't already!

The Spy Who Loved me is this beautiful bright apple red with gold glitter bits in it - I couldn't stop staring at my fingers all week! The formula is so easy to work with, and is self levelling to give a smooth, glossy finish. Despite the glitter, the polish is quite easy to remove and wears up to 4 days chip free. I can easily see this worn throughout the holiday season!

Manicure Monday: Tomorrow Never Dies

November 19, 2012

Where did the weekend go? It's Monday again! What did you guys do this past weekend?! Aside from studying (I'm such a good student ;)), I headed out to the Art Gallery of Alberta on Saturday night for their Monstrous Baroque Refinery Late Night Party. Everything was gorgeous, and I had so much fun dressing up for the event! If you haven't seen what I had up on Instagram from the party, details are to come later.

This week for Manicure Monday I have another polish from the OPI Skyfall Collection - getting bored of them yet? I surely am not cause the shades are SO pretty! Tomorrow Never Dies is the 18th Bond film ever produced and was released in 1997 - with Pierce Brosnan as Bond!

Tomorrow Never Dies is a deep indigo polish with a dimension of holographic depth, and full of blue and pink pulverized glitter. I secretly hate these shimmer, pseudo-metallic shades mainly due to visibility of brush strokes, but the formula for Tomorrow Never Dies is spot on. It definitely requires two coats, but each coat is self levelling with a beautiful smooth, glossy finish. The polish wore chip free for four days and was surprisingly easy to remove. If you're on the lookout for a deep blue polish, this one has your name written all over it!

James Bond

Manicure Monday: Casino Royale

November 12, 2012

Happy Monday! I've been having an amazingly long weekend - mine started Friday and ends tomorrow, so obviously I've been up to no good! ;) Just kidding.

This week I have another shade from OPI's Skyfall collection to share with you - this time we've got Casino Royale, which I can say I did watch before! Casino Royale was released in 2006, and the 21st Bond movie to be released.. I never actually realized there were SO many Bond movies!

Casino Royale is a shade I would describe as a plum wine. In brighter lights, it appears as a plum creme, but in darker environments, the red wine shade comes out, making it much darker, but still a great colour.

Surprisingly enough, the polish itself applied sheerer than I thought it would, so a full two coats is necessary to level everything out and achieve opacity. The formula does flow smoothly as expected, and lasts up to 4 days chip free.

It really is a gorgeous, rich shade to wear for the upcoming holiday season! Skyfall was released in theatres just this past weekend.. did anyone get to see it yet? Let me know your thoughts if you have!

James Bond

Manicure Monday: On Her Majesty’s Secret Service

November 05, 2012

Skyfall. James Bond. Anyone excited for the new movie coming out?! I've never been a HUGE James Bond fan, but put a nail polish collection with it and I'm all over it. The Skyfall collection from OPI is out for the holiday season, and the colours are GORGEOUS. I basically picked up he whole collection and can't wait to swatch and share it all with you!

Almost all the shades from this collection are named after the Bond movies that have been released throughout the years. While I admit I haven't seen a majority of them - I either wasn't born yet or I was too little to watch! - this is such a great collection for the James Bond fan to own!

First up I have to share this week is called On Her Majesty's Secret Service, which happens to be the sixth film in the bond series, released in 1969 with George Lazenby as James Bond. Just by looking at this polish, I can probably go out on a limb and say its going to be one of my favourite shades.

OHMSS is such a unique shade, as it has so much going on. Small blue-green, gold, silver and purple glitter is suspended in a sheer slate-blue coloured base. It honestly reminds me of Number One Nemesis from the Spiderman collection, except this one is the blue-green version of it.

The formula was very smooth and easy to apply, but I was surprised that it happened to be so sheer! This one is definitely a polish you will be 2+ coats with to achieve full opacity, but being a glittery polish it has an amazing wear time of 5-6 days chip free. Something that I really love is that the glitter is suspended in almost a jelly like base, which makes the removal quite easy despite being a glitter. I love this shade and can see myself wearing it fairly often!

Til next week!
