Transition to Fall: Skull & Glossbones

September 07, 2011

So, I thought that this week would cool down a bit, given that it IS the beginning of a new school year. But nope! This week, Edmonton has been hit with a heat wave, reaching highs of 31 degrees C! That's outrageous for September in Edmonton. Not that I'm really complaining though, it didn't really feel like we had a proper summer this year. Better late than never, I always say!

Because I thought that we would be transitioning into Fall, I chose a pastel grey hue from the OPI Pirates of the Caribbean collection to cover my nails.

Skull & Glossbones is one of the colours that came in my mini set of polishes from the collection. I previously complained about the small brushes in the mini bottles giving me a hard time, but I'm beginning to think that it may have been the polish that was the issue last time. With this shade I still used three coats, but it was much easier to apply and work with compared to Planks A Lot.

Skull & Glossbones is the first grey I have owned, and I feel like it is going to be a favourite of mine for a long time to come. I would describe it as a dusty, putty grey creme, with a hint of green in the base. Three coats ensured full opacity (I would have done fine with two), and the formula was smooth and easy to work with.

This shade is a beautiful colour to use and transition into the darker shades for Fall & Winter. I just look silly with it on my fingers this week.

Please excuse me while I run out & buy the full sized bottle!

Fall is just around the corner

September 05, 2011

I hate to admit it, but fall is most definitely almost here. The sky is gloomy, and its cold. Makes me want want to pull out my winter mittens in fear.

To tell you the truth, it wouldn't be so bad if the weather in Alberta didn't change so drastically. Last week I felt like a heat wave was going on, high 20's everyday, heck, the wind was even warm. This weekend? It's 10 degrees outside and I have to cover every inch of my body.

I'm slowly preparing myself though, starting off by buying a pair of cute shoes for this fall. I know they're not technically considered booties, but why do I keep calling them that? I can't picture myself wearing them in the summer.. they look like they belong on feet in Autumn. I think they're a great transitional piece from sandals in the summer to boots in the fall & winter.

I picked up this pair from Coach (addict, I tell you), and they're quite easy to slip into, contrary to what you may think. The straps are for show, and the shoes feature a zipper hidden away on the inside out of sight.

With a 4.5" heel height, they're very comfortable as there is a 1" platform at the front. The leather is oh so soft, but likely prone to scratches. We'll see how things go. The soles are also completely leather, so getting the shoes soled after a wear or two will be better for both grip to the ground and increasing the lifetime of the shoe.

I'm so excited to wear these shoes out soon! I think they'll look fantastic with skinny jeans or tights, and the colour is a nice neutral to go with everything. These are called the Sandra heel, and are currently available in black through the Coach website for $218.

Twisted Yogurt Update!

September 04, 2011

For all you yogurt fans out there, I stopped by the Terwillegar Twisted Yogurt location last Wednesday for their Back to School BOGO special.

Plain yogurt w/ blueberries, blackberries, & assorted popping boba

They are constantly updating their flavours, but what I was surprised to see was popping boba - the little balls of juice that you can order at Dessert House. It's available in three flavours, mango, lychee, and passion fruit. Unfortunately, there's still no signs of any mochi. For your mochi fix, I suggest hitting up Tutti Frutti on Whyte!
